My First Vacation
Underconstruction

(Updated June 1998)

After ruthless 22 months, finally I got my first vacation (Mar 4 - May 2, 1998). What do you expect for the first vacation? Of course, it must be wonderful with lots of travelling and spending spree. My vacation expenses hit the ceiling eventhough most of the time I was in Thailand during Thai baht devalued ($1 = Bt40). But yeah, that's the use of the money...Here are how I spent it.

Party time started since my first day of arrival to Bangkok. I forgot to tell you that I flew back with Qatar Airways which I had stewardess friends on the same flight who made me feel first class services in my economy seat. As the result, I felt I had to do something in return for their special care to me. That's my first mission showing them around Bangkok during my first week.

Scuba Diving

I started my scuba diving experiences with Mermaid Diving School in Pattaya - Thailand which is one of the Five Stars Diving Centers of PADI. It was 4-day personal course just for me with 3 instructors! We took diving trips out to Pattaya bay which impressed and surprised me a lot that Pattaya still has underwater world in good condition. The only problem was that the current was a bit strong.

Shopping in SingaporeMy Digital Camcorder

I wanted to buy a video camera but I could not find any model I liked. So, I decided to go to Singapore for a day with two other friends just for one day. Really, I flew to Singapore in the morning and came back in the evening. It was a REAL shopping spree. I got what I wanted (My Panasonic's Digital Video Camera DS5) plus a lot more stuff before rushing back to the airport to catch the flight back home.

Back Home

I don't know where my home is, seriously. Because 4 years in university before I got my first job in Schlumberger, I was in Bangkok. Before that I grew up in Chiang Mai. I enjoy both places. My parents are in Chiang Mai. Many respected relatives of mine are in Bangkok, including my lovely aunt and my brother who I stayed with during my time in the 'City of Angel'. Lots of friends everywhere either Chiang Mai or Bangkok makes me feel home in either places.

To Australia

Choosing the place for my vacation was so difficult. After screening out so many options I had a few left which were: South Africa, Australia, Greece which would be nice to visit during April. Coincidently, these countries were all the nominees of Olympic 2000. I got my mind the same as those Olympic committee who chose Sydney, Australia for my visit. I went to Sydney, Canberra and Melbourne. It was a fantastic vacation there. I'll try to put some photos on later.

Trips With My Family

That was another time that everybody in my family reunioned again since we separated for studying and working. We went to Trang to pay respect to our ancestors at the family's cemetary park during Thai New Year (Songkran). After that we took the trips around the tourist sites in Trang.

With Friends

My uncle, Khun Kanit, owns a resort in Kanchanaburi. He had invited me and my friends to visit his resort, Home Pu Toey, for many years since I was in university. I just had a chance this time to bring my friends, 11 of us, to the resort. We had a really good time there with a warm welcome from the staff at Home Pu Toey.

It's Over

After another busy month in April for parties, travelling, I felt like I hadn't got the REAL vacation yet. I decided to go to Chiang Mai a good break for my life. I like Chiang Mai more than Bangkok when I really need a place to relieve my fatique of a long and tiresome work with Schlumberger. I was so relax and having good exercise in the fitness club. I spent my last two weeks swimming and working out everyday. I was totally fit to start my nexr year in the oil field. Unfortunately, my vacation was not happy-endding. I got a call from my manager to go back to Qatar 3 days ahead of my schedule when I was about to have my farewell party wirh my friends which I had to cancel disappointingly. Well, that's life in Schlumberger......
